Itinerary of 4 days tour from Agadir to Merzouga

Day 1: Agadir – Ouarzazate

Our 4 days tour from Agadir to Merzouga departs by 4X4 in the morning and travels through Taroudant, also referred to as “Little Marrakech,” Taliouine, and Taznakht. From here, a road leads to the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, the most well-known Kasbah in Morocco and one of the nation’s nine UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Go to the Kasbah and go to the summit for a panoramic view after eating in the village. Only a few kilometers separate you from the tiny settlement of Ouarzazate, where you will spend the night in a riad.

Day 2: Ouarzazate – Merzouga

In the morning, we go from Ouarzazate to the Toudgha gorges through Skoura. There, we walk off-road to visit the Kasbahs, some of which are regrettably in disrepair but are idyllically set among a vast number of palm trees in this magnificent oasis. The most famous of these Kasbahs, Amredhil, is well worth a photo stop and a quick visit. The Valley of Roses, where roses are distilled into oils, lotions, and creams that are marketed all over the nation, is located along the main road. The following place to visit is the Dades Valley, which features breathtaking rock formations and lush gardens along the river. We take a break for lunch in the Toudgha gorges. We continue on to the Merzouga dunes in the afternoon for a two-hour camel ride to the Erg Chebbi dunes (250m). The view of the sunset from the top of the dunes is stunning. You eat and sleep in a plush tent with a private bathroom, king-sized beds, wonderful Moroccan decor, and lamps that are strategically placed to help you take full advantage of the peace and beauty of the sand dunes.

Day 3: Merzouga – Agdz

You might catch the dawn if you wake up early enough, when the color of the dunes and the dancing of the shadows make an amazing scene. After breakfast, the trip continues to the Dra’a Valley, the longest valley in Morocco. Along the route, we stop for lunch in the towns of Rissani, Alnif, Tazzarine, and N’Qob. Afternoon journey takes us to Tansikht crossing the Dra’a River, which can be either a raging torrent or just a trickle. Here, we turn left and proceed north, traveling through the valley’s tall palm trees and historic settlements along the path taken by the ancient caravans. We get at Agdz in the late afternoon to have dinner and spend the night.

Day 4: Agdz – Agadir

After breakfast, we depart from Agdz and travel to Taznakht, a town famous for its Berber glims and carpets. On our tour, we travel through the Bouazzer mines and stunning scenery. This region of the country is farther away and less traveled. The Tizi-n-Ikhsane and Tizi-n-Tighatine passes are crossed on the way west to Agadir. In Taliouine, the center of Morocco’s saffron-growing region, we take a break for lunch. Here, there is a wonderful little museum devoted to the craft of saffron farming. The road returns us to Taroudant in the late afternoon, from where we follow the frequently dry Souss River and countless argan trees on all the steep slopes down to Agadir.
